Leslie Cohen Law PC is seeking a fulltime paralegal/legal secretary to join its bankruptcy practice. LCL is a friendly, small, woman-owned law firm with its office on Montana Avenue in Santa Monica. LCL’s practice consists of chapter 11 bankruptcy, chapter 7 bankruptcy, bankruptcy litigation and appellate work, along with workouts and acquisition services. Our two attorneys have been working together at our firm for over 16 years. More information on our firm is available on our website https://www.lesliecohenlaw.com/

This is a hybrid position where the candidate will be permitted to work from both our Santa Monica office and their home, depending on the particular needs and requirements of the work being performed.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Download and review incoming pleadings and provide copies to clients

Maintain calendar of filing deadlines, processing times, etc. and manage caseload

Ensure filings are in compliance with local and bankruptcy rules and complete court filings

Analyze and review case details to determine future actions

Process client information for bankruptcy petitions and related filings

Liaise with court staff, bankruptcy trustees and Office of United States Trustee

Coordinate and complete service of documents

Prepare Monthly Operating Reports for chapter 11 cases

Review legal documents to ensure consistency and correct formatting

Communicate verbally and in writing with business and individual clients and other professionals

Assist attorneys as needed with case preparation, including discovery, reviewing evidence, providing support during hearings and meetings

Perform administrative duties related to client intake, file maintenance and client accounts

Handle privileged, confidential, and sensitive information in an appropriate and professional manner

Position Requirements and Preferences

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required (AA may be considered)

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required

Strong attention to detail and organizational skills are required, along with the ability to take ownership of projects and required responsibilities

Must have the ability to prioritize deadlines and be able to multi-task.

Knowledge of legal terminology and ability to explain requests to client

Knowledge of practice area rules and procedures, and/or ability to quickly get up to speed on local rules and procedures

Skilled in written and verbal communication

Prior law firm or in house legal experience a plus

Candidate must also be a true team player, must show initiative and be able to resolve issues proactively.
