BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
The purpose of this position is to direct all activities and operations of the department. This is accomplished by developing and administering policies and procedures, preparing and presenting budgets, forecasting revenues and expenditures, monitoring expenditures, researching, recommending, purchasing and managing all collection and material acquisitions, increasing community participation, coordinating activities with internal departments and outside agencies and officials, and providing reports to management, boards and commissions, and elected officials. Other duties include interacting with library patrons and representing the library to boards and organizations.

Driver’s License Required – Y Type – C

1 L Regular and reliable attendance in compliance with given schedules is a mandatory requirement of this position. Schedules may be subject to change with or without advance notice
2 S Schedules and assigns staff activities by reviewing priorities, communicating changes, overseeing projects, conducting training, managing time and attendance and monitoring and evaluating work activities.
3 S Provides customer service to the community by assisting with questions or inquiries, assisting in locating materials, responding to comments, endorsing display materials, resolving problems, covering service desks as necessary, and ordering library materials when requested.
4 S Develops and presents the annual department budget and goals and objectives by reviewing expenditures and programs, forecasting revenues and expenditures, pursuing grant opportunities, calculating program costs related to new collection materials, and implementing budgetary adjustments as appropriate.
5 S Supervises all collection acquisitions by reviewing orders, submitting and approving orders, negotiating with vendors on pricing, and consulting catalogs and journals for new materials.
6 S Represents the library and increases community participation by attending board and committee meetings, publishing activities, working with volunteers, facilitating presentations, promoting special library programs and activities, scheduling displays and recognizing community supporters and participants.
7 S Reviews and approves expenditures and revenues by monitoring and reviewing revenue receipts, acknowledging monetary donations, managing inventories, reconciling accounts, and initiating regular reports.

Communications Requirements Reads scientific and technical journals, abstracts, financial reports, and legal documents; speaks before professional and civic groups; participates in panel discussions and speaks extemporaneously on a variety of subjects; writes complex articles, reports, and develops presentations for sophisticated audiences
