Position: Legal Assistant III – GSA Office of General Counsel
Clearance Requirements: GSA suitability determination for a Public Trust position, plus a PIV credential. U.S. citizenship required.
Salary: $38.77/hr. plus optional $5.55/hr. Health & Welfare Stipend. $44.32/hr.
Potential Start Date & PoP: 9/11/26 through 9/10/31 (5 year PoP)
POSITION SUMMARY: We are currently sourcing highly qualified candidates for the proposed position of Legal Assistant III in support of the GSA Office of General Counsel. This proposed position provides full-scope legal assistant and administrative support to GSA Office of General Counsel attorneys and legal staff at the Government-designated OGC location in Washington, DC, during core hours.
Performs the complete task set comprised of, but not limited to: Front office reception, telephone and inquiry routing, calendar(s) and travel management (scheduling, booking, confirmation, support), mail services, legal document preparation, case file and records management, court and board filings, legal review tracking, research support, and data entry. Fully cross-trained and interchangeable with the second Legal Assistant III so that no task, deadline, or front-desk hour depends on a single individual.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide in-person front office and reception support: greet visitors, control access per Government security procedures, and maintain a professional front office environment. Answer and route telephone and general inquiries strictly in accordance with the Government-provided routing matrix, referring anything not explicitly covered to the designated Government point of contact.
- Maintain assigned attorneys’ calendars and daily suspense lists; schedule meetings, conferences, and conference calls; reserve rooms and prepare materials; arrange travel and lodging, secure pre-travel approvals, input vouchers into ConcurGov, and enter time and leave into HR Links.
- Run the daily mail cycle: receive, open, time stamp, review, screen for priority, and distribute incoming mail and faxes; collect, prepare, and dispatch outgoing mail; coordinate local courier service when approved.
- Prepare and quality-check legal documents, correspondence, briefs, memoranda, exhibits, and pleadings for format, grammar, spelling, pagination, tables of authorities, and compliance with applicable court, board, commission, or agency formatting rules.
- Establish and maintain physical and electronic case files, legal subject files, and records in accordance with the applicable office file plan; prepare, assemble, and submit filings to the U.S. District Court, the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, boards of contract appeals, and GAO; maintain documentation proving filing, service, and lodging.
- Support OGC legal review tracking: circulate sensitive correspondence, legislative items, and executive orders for review; confirm concurrence with OGC divisions; maintain tracked-item records and generate response reports. Conduct legal research and reference support using LexisNexis, Westlaw, and GSA and OGC databases.
- Perform data entry and tracking for office budget, timesheets, leave, travel, training, workload, and litigation case tracking; provide document reproduction, assembly, and office equipment and supply support. Perform optional FOIA program support duties if the Government exercises that scope.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: (MUST HAVE clearly defined and obvious on resume)
- Minimum three (3) years of DIRECT federal litigation support experience. (Supporting litigation for a federal agency, a U.S. Attorney’s Office, DOJ, or a contractor supporting one of those.)
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Demonstrated experience across legal administrative support, document management, case file organization, document production, litigation support, court or administrative filing support, and handling sensitive, confidential, privileged, or non-public legal information.
- Capable of performing the full range of administrative, clerical, legal support, records management, document preparation, scheduling, tracking, and customer service duties.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Edge/Internet Explorer, Google Suite, Foxit Phantom or Adobe Acrobat DC, PowerPoint, and Cisco Jabber.
- Communicates effectively orally and in writing; detail-oriented and accurate; able to handle multiple tasks and prioritize.
- U.S. citizen, able to obtain and maintain a GSA suitability determination and PIV credential.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Paralegal certificate (NALA CP, NFPA RP, or an ABA-approved program).
- CM/ECF electronic filing experience with U.S. District Court or the Court of Federal Claims; CBCA, ASBCA, or GAO bid protest filing experience.
- Experience with legal document management systems, e-discovery platforms, and case tracking systems.
- ConcurGov and HR Links experience.
- Prior GSA experience, or an existing favorable federal suitability adjudication with less than a one-year break in service.
- FOIA and Privacy Act processing experience.
