The Firm’s Washington, DC office is seeking a highly organized Legal Assistant. This position provides direct support within a fast-paced Estate Planning and Estate Administration practice and requires someone confident, proactive, and comfortable managing substantial workflows. The ideal candidate is self-directed, professional, and capable of thriving in a busy environment. Success in the role requires adaptability, strong communication, and the ability to manage competing priorities. Legal Assistant experience in the Trusts and Estates area is welcomed but not required.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Screen potential new clients over the phone and by email and send referrals where appropriate
  • Handle new client intake, including drafting engagement letters, performing conflict checks, and assisting clients in the completion and submission of new client questionnaires
  • Create client portals and assist clients in accessing their client portal
  • Welcome clients and other visitors to our office, and respond to routine inquiries, ensuring a high level of client service throughout the estate planning and administration process
  • Schedule client meetings, manage partners’ calendars, and make attorney travel arrangements
  • Support attorneys with reimbursement requests and documenting expenses
  • Prepare and assemble large mailings with multiple enclosures
  • Assemble estate planning documents in preparation for client signing meetings and serve as witness or notary
  • Scan, save and appropriately store executed client documents
  • Prepare binders that organize clients’ signed estate planning documents and beneficiary designations
  • Maintain and organize electronic client files, including wills, trusts, powers of attorney, purchase agreements, promissory notes, and other legal documents
  • Receive, open, log, scan, and distribute incoming mail

Required Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of legal assistant experience, a bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to work five days per week in the D.C. office currently located in Glover Park, with a pending move to Friendship Heights
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-touch client service environment
  • Ability to adapt to differing attorney preferences, including technology comfort levels, pace, and communication styles
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a calm and professional demeanor
  • Strong organizational skills with an effective system for managing multiple competing deadlines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and document management systems
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate needs, exercise sound judgment, and take ownership of responsibilities
  • Foster trust through proactive communication, reliability, and professionalism

Preferred Qualification:

  • Experience in trusts and estates, including estate planning, private client, family office, or high-net-worth legal practice areas

Target Salary Range: $75,000 to $85,000 annually. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors including but not limited to experience and training, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This role will also be eligible for an annual discretionary variable incentive bonus.
