We’re looking for a dependable, energetic, self-starter with good communication skills to join our agency in providing excellent customer service for staff, consumers, and businesses in our Legal Division.

Primary Purpose Of Your Role

The Department’s Legal Division performs the agency’s licensing, administration and enforcement duties related to the majority of the 120 laws under the agency’s jurisdiction. The individual in this role is responsible for performing various tasks to support the Legal Division in accomplishing agency goals.

DAY-TO-DAY ACTIVITIES

Performs legal research and drafts summarizing memoranda.

Under general supervision, provides administrative, technical, and legal support services for the Legal Division.

Receives and processes security breach notifications from businesses. Reviews submissions for requisite information and corresponds with businesses regarding the need for additional information. Ensures documents are filed and maintained in an organized filing system.

Serves as the Legal Division’s point-of-contact for Freedom of Information Act requests. Reviews documents for information exempt from disclosure by law and performs necessary redactions. Maintains a calendar of deadlines and ensures all responses are submitted in a timely manner.

Receives and processes bankruptcy filings. Ensures documents are filed and maintained in an organized filing system.

Assists with the processing, scanning, and data entry of preneed funeral contracts.

Assists licensing staff during high-volume renewal periods.

Provides support for investigations and enforcement actions.

Performs clerical and other tasks as required.

Minimum And Additional Requirements

A high school diploma and relevant program experience. A bachelor’s degree may be substituted for the required program experience.

Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.

Must be adaptable and able to follow a task or directive through, despite unfamiliarity with task at hand.

Professional demeanor and attitude including dress, timeliness, and dependability.

Must be able to interact with people from diverse backgrounds and deal courteously with the general public and staff.

Independent decision making and discretion are essential requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

A paralegal degree or certificate.

Ability to maintain effective working relationships.

Ability to perform legal research.

Well organized and able to work independently.

Working knowledge of computer applications including Microsoft Office.
