Description
For a candidate looking to build their career as a Legal Assistant, this is an exciting opportunity to join one of the leading Private Client and Trusts practices in Guernsey. As part of the probate and estate planning team, the successful candidate will undertake full administration services for deceased individuals, support the partners acting as professional executors, prepare and liaise with relevant institutions and public bodies, and wind up estates in Guernsey and assist with grant applications and intestate matters.
Key Responsibilities
Running matters under the supervision of relevant partners, ensuring regular sign off and updates with them;
Meeting with clients and remaining in regular contact at each stage of the administration of the estate;
Preparing applications for probate;
Arranging grant applications locally and in other jurisdictions;
Attending at court with clients as required;
Preparing applications to register Wills of Realty as required;
Administration of estates:
Liaising with asset holders to call in funds;
Liaising with creditors to arrange payment of debts;
Liaising with beneficiaries re entitlements to estate and estate administration progression;
Arranging for valuation, sale and clearance of properties as required involving liaising with estate agents and other third parties;
Preparation of estate accounts
Preparation of tax returns
Drafting of Gazette Notices (Prescription)
Drafting of required Affidavits, Indemnities, family trees, Instrument of Variation or other documentation as required
Collating CCD of beneficiaries and background of deceased individual for AML purposes;
Undertaking legal research in relation to ongoing matters;
Developing and maintaining strong professional working relationships with Court staff, Crown Officers, other lawyers and clerks from other firms, and other professionals as required;
Attending to clients and providing support in a professional, sensitive and friendly manner in keeping with the Firm’s standards for client care;
Matter opening and closing to include all scanning and filing;
Effectively monitoring WIP and billing against cost estimates and agreed budgets and billing; arrangements in conjunction with supervising Partner.
Skills, Knowledge And Expertise
We are keen to see applications from candidates with a variety of experience, however would be particularly keen to hear from those who have previously worked as a Legal Assistant or Paralegal.
Candidates should be proactive, organised, empathetic and have impeccable attention to detail. They will be educated to A level or equivalent and will be confident with basic maths and calculations.
Applicants must be in possession of a right to work document allowing them to live and work in Guernsey (such as a permanent resident certificate or family resident permit).
