Legal.io is seeking a legal assistant to work within a leading auto-maker’s Office of General Counsel to respond to third party subpoenas and inquiries. The Legal Assistant is responsible for reviewing correspondence, communicating with internal teams on a potential response, reviewing materials for relevance and responding to third party inquiries. This is a hybrid role in Dearborn, MI.

Duration: 6 Months
Pay Rate: $45 – $60 / hr ($90,000 – $120,000 annualized)

Job description:
Receive and Review: Legal Assistant will work closely with lawyers on the Discovery team to carefully review each subpoena to understand its scope, requirements, and deadlines.
Information Gathering: Work closely with various internal departments (HR, Finance, specific business units, etc.) to identify, locate, and collect responsive documents and information.
Collaboration & Communication: Communicate effectively with internal resources to explain the subpoena requirements and coordinate document retrieval. You may also need to communicate with the requesting party (the person or entity who issued the subpoena) to clarify requests, discuss scope, or negotiate production timelines, under the guidance of our legal counsel.
Document Management & Production: Organize, Bates stamp (if necessary), and prepare documents for production, ensuring all responsive materials are included and any privileged or confidential information is handled appropriately (often in coordination with attorneys).
Prepare Written Response: Under the guidance and supervision of legal counsel, the Legal Assistant will assist in drafting and preparing the formal written response accompanying the document production, which may include outlining the scope of production, asserting objections (under attorney direction), and providing necessary certifications.
Tracking & Reporting: Assist in maintaining a detailed system for tracking all incoming subpoenas, their status, deadlines, and production details. This ensures nothing falls through the cracks and allows for reporting on volume and trends.
Required Skills:
Proficient in MS Office products and Adobe Acrobat. Familiarity with e-discovery tools is a bonus.
A strong understanding of the importance of handling sensitive and confidential information with discretion and in compliance with internal privacy guidelines.
Experience:
At least 5 years of legal experience with a focus on litigation.
