About the Role:

The Director of Litigation at Sanabria & Associates PLLC will play a pivotal role in overseeing all litigation activities within the firm. This position is responsible for developing and implementing litigation strategies that align with the firm’s objectives while ensuring the highest standards of legal practice. The Director will lead a team of attorneys and support staff, providing guidance and mentorship to foster professional growth and enhance team performance. Additionally, this role involves managing complex cases, negotiating settlements, and representing clients in court to achieve favorable outcomes. Ultimately, the Director of Litigation will contribute to the firm’s reputation for excellence in legal representation and client service.

Minimum Qualifications:

Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
Active bar membership in any state or US territory.
Bilingual in Spanish and English

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in managing a litigation team or department.

Personnel Management & Training Responsibilities:

Directly manage the litigation team and provide guidance to all attorneys who are representing clients in EOIR proceedings
Manage the docket team to ensure all hearings are covered, deadlines are met, and scheduling orders are followed
Assist in the process of onboarding new attorneys by introducing them to the team, assessing their skill level, and coordinate training
Meet with litigation attorneys and paralegals who are not meeting the goals or struggling in order to provide tangible feedback for improvement
Provide insight into staff morale, firm policies, and recruiting efforts
Regularly check in with partners about the status of each team member and mentor those who show exceptional talent and potential for management
Assist all attorneys in coordinating last minute deadlines, hearings, and submissions by providing guidance and reassigning duties
Coordinate a rewrite of the Immigration Handbook every two years and provide updates as needed

Administrative Responsibilities:

Monitor new immigration policies and provide guidance on how to change legal strategies and speak with clients
Assist in software audits of cases when there is staff turnover and regularly update deadlines and notes for legal strategy within the software
Attend board meetings each month and provide insight into hiring needs, attorney morale, and firm capacity

Legal Responsibilities:

Attend 3-7 individual hearings a month and cover master calendar hearings as needed
Assist attorneys by answering complex legal questions and creating strategies if they hit a roadblock

Supportive Duties:

Assist partners and staff with other duties as needed
Develop and implement comprehensive strategies for various cases
Supervise and mentor a team of attorneys and legal staff, proving guidance on case management and legal research
Collaborate with other departments to ensure a unified approach to client service and case resolution
