Job Summary
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Legal Assistant to join our dynamic legal team. The Legal Assistant will provide critical support to attorneys and other legal professionals through a blend of administrative, organizational, and legal tasks. This role is ideal for someone with strong multitasking skills, the ability to manage competing priorities, and a passion for the legal field.
Key Responsibilities
Administrative Support
Schedule client meetings, court appearances, and maintain attorneys’ calendars.
Draft and send professional correspondence to clients, courts, and third parties.
Document Preparation and Management
Prepare, proofread, and format legal documents, including contracts, pleadings, motions, and discovery materials.
File legal documents with state and federal courts, both electronically and in person, ensuring all deadlines are met.
Maintain and organize physical and electronic client files, ensuring all case materials are current.
Legal Research and Assistance
Conduct legal research and compile findings for attorney review.
Summarize case law, statutes, or regulations as required.
Client Interaction
Act as a point of contact for clients, providing updates and gathering essential information.
Assist in witness coordination and preparation.
Trial and Hearing Preparation
Assist attorneys in assembling exhibits, evidence, and other necessary documentation for hearings, trials, and corporate transactions.
Coordinate depositions, subpoenas, and other case-related activities as needed.
Billing and Timekeeping
Track billable hours for attorneys and assist with invoicing clients.
Maintain accurate records of all expenses associated with cases.
Required Skills And Qualifications
Education: Associates or bachelor’s degree in Legal Studies, Paralegal Studies, or a related field preferred. Paralegal certification is a plus.
Experience: 1+ years of experience as a Legal Assistant or in a legal environment is required.
Technical Skills
Proficiency in legal software (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis), as well as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Knowledge of e-filing systems for court submissions.
Soft Skills
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including professional telephone etiquette.
Close attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks.
Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
