Join Our Team as a Temporary Legal Assistant
Are you seeking an exciting opportunity to provide legal and administrative support for the prosecution of criminal and provincial offences? Do you excel in a fast-paced, collaborative work environment?
The Appeals and Specialized Prosecutions Office (ASO) of the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service (ACPS) is currently hiring for a Temporary Legal Assistant position in their Specialized Prosecutions Office located in Edmonton.

As the successful candidate, you will:
Facilitate pre-charge consultations and maintain contact with stakeholders.
Manage witnesses, including scheduling interviews, coordinating travel arrangements, explaining the criminal process, and addressing questions or concerns.
Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure proper handling of criminal files.
Organize, manage, and maintain Crown files.
Maintain Crown Prosecutor diaries and the diarization system using Outlook.
Vet, track, and maintain disclosure materials.
Prepare and file complex legal documentation.
Respond to and follow up on inquiries from the public, defense counsel, and the accused.
Conduct legal research at the direction of Crown Prosecutors.
Use the Justice Online Information Network (JOIN) and Prosecutor Information System Manager (PRISM) to verify charges, court dates, assigned prosecutors, locations, and subpoena witnesses.
Create and complete various forms of correspondence.
Perform specialized ad hoc administrative tasks as assigned.
Assist other Legal Assistants as needed.

A comprehensive understanding of the justice system and legal processes.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
Strong problem-solving abilities and critical thinking skills.
Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail.
The ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
A professional and respectful approach when working with stakeholders.
The ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, prioritize tasks, and meet tight deadlines.
Strong knowledge of office procedures and experience using systems such as JOIN, PRISM, Microsoft Office, database programs, and Adobe Pro.
