Description
Legal Assistant
The ideal candidate will provide comprehensive administrative and legal support to attorneys, ensuring efficient case management and smooth office operations. Assists attorneys in legal research and preparation of legal documents.
Responsibilities
Case Management:
Maintain and organize physical and electronic case files, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
Schedule and manage appointments, deadlines, and court appearances.
Prepare and file legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and discovery requests, with courts and agencies.
Track case progress and provide timely updates to attorneys.
Assist in the preparation of trial exhibits and materials.
Document Preparation And Management
Draft and proofread legal correspondence, memoranda, and other documents.
Transcribe dictation and prepare legal documents.
Organize and maintain legal research materials.
Manage document production and discovery processes.
Client Communication
Answer and direct phone calls, emails, and other inquiries from clients and other parties.
Schedule and coordinate client meetings.
Maintain professional and courteous communication with clients and opposing counsel.
Administrative Support
Manage calendars and schedule appointments.
Process incoming and outgoing mail and faxes.
Maintain office supplies and equipment.
Perform general clerical duties, such as photocopying, scanning, and filing.
Perform legal research as needed.
E-filing documents in various court systems.
Qualifications
Associate’s degree required.
3-5 years of experience as a Legal Assistant or in a related administrative role within a law firm.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
Familiarity with legal terminology and procedures.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Experience with legal case management software (e.g., Clio, PracticePanther) is a plus.
Notary Public certification is a plus.
Paralegal certification required.
Minimum typing speed of 65 WPM
