About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Legal and Compliance Officer to join our growing accountancy practice. This is an office-based role requiring regular face-to-face interaction with clients and close collaboration with internal teams. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring legal and regulatory compliance across the firm while providing support in relation to contracts, trust administration, corporate matters, and client services.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and legal documents on behalf of the firm and its clients.
  • Maintain and update engagement letters to ensure continued compliance with professional standards, UK GDPR requirements, and applicable legislation.
  • Support the administration of trusts and related arrangements, including the preparation of documentation and the maintenance of trust records.
  • Prepare meeting papers, minutes, resolutions, and assist with annual reviews and trustee-related matters.
  • Conduct routine compliance and risk assessments to identify and evaluate regulatory risks.
  • Monitor compliance with relevant legislation, regulatory requirements, and internal policies, ensuring procedures remain current and effective.
  • Review marketing materials, website content, and presentations to ensure compliance with applicable legal and regulatory standards.
  • Assist with the preparation and collation of information requested by regulatory authorities and professional bodies.
  • Maintain compliance files, project documentation, and records in an organised and accurate manner.
  • Respond to client telephone enquiries and provide professional support on compliance-related matters.
  • Provide wider administrative support to the team and contribute to departmental projects and business development initiatives.
  • Research legal and legislative developments, prepare briefing notes and advise on the legal implications of business decisions affecting clients and the firm. 

Qualifications and Experience:

Essential Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in law (LLB) or equivalent legal qualification. 
  • Sound knowledge of Corporate Law and regulatory compliance. 
  • Minimum of three years' relevant experience in legal compliance, corporate law, client administration, or a similar professional environment. 
  • Knowledge of UK GDPR and data protection requirements. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Strong organisational skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently. 
  • Professional approach to dealing with clients and colleagues.

Desirable Requirements:

  • Experience gained within an accountancy practice, legal practice, financial services firm or professional services environment. 
  • Knowledge of company secretarial matters. 
  • Familiarity with anti-money laundering (AML) and regulatory compliance procedures.

Working Arrangement:

This is a fully office-based role. Due to the nature of the position, regular in-person meetings with clients and collaboration with colleagues are required. Remote or hybrid working is not available for this position.
