Overview

Airswift is recruiting a Legal Advisor – ESG / Societal to support a major Oil & Gas Operator at holding-company level. The role will sit within the Societal Division of the Corporate Legal Affairs Department and will provide legal expertise on ESG, sustainability, climate, and human rights matters in a rapidly evolving regulatory environment.

This position is critical during the preparation of the company’s annual non?financial reporting (Duty of Care Plan, CSRD, Sustainability Report) and in managing ESG?related legal, regulatory, litigation, and reputational risks.

Key Responsibilities

Legal Advice & Support

  • Provide legal and regulatory analysis on climate and sustainability law
  • Review voluntary commitments, external publications, and sustainability disclosures
  • Support contractual aspects of climate-related partnerships (e.g. OGCI)
  • Monitor ESG?related legislation, case law, and litigation trends
  • Prevent and manage greenwashing risks, including:
    • Legal review of advertisements and communications
    • Awareness sessions for communications teams
    • Support in disputes before advertising self?regulatory bodies (JDP)
  • Provide legal support on human rights, including:
    • Review of internal guidelines and external publications
    • Assistance with human rights risk mapping processes
  • Support internal teams on CSRD compliance (Sustainability & Climate, Environment, Procurement)
  • Advise on broader ESG topics: duty of care, biodiversity, stakeholder engagement, sustainable development

Regulatory & Legislative Advocacy

  • Analyse the legal impact of EU and French legislative proposals
  • Draft position papers and proposed amendments
  • Work closely with the Public Affairs team

All activities are performed under the supervision of the Head of the Societal Division.

Candidate Profile

  • Qualified lawyer with approximately 10 years’ experience
  • Background in:
    • International law firms and/or
    • Legal departments of large multinational companies
  • Strong expertise in ESG law and regulation, including:
    • Duty of care
    • CSRD / CS3D
    • Environmental and sustainability claims
  • Highly rigorous, detail?oriented, and comfortable working in complex regulatory frameworks
  • Able to deliver clear, practical legal advice to non?legal stakeholders
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills
