About The Role
We are seeking an experienced lawyer to represent clients in criminal law and related matters, including preparing cases, instructing counsel, and appearing for accused persons at all stages of proceedings. The role involves providing duty lawyer services in the Magistrates and Children's Courts, attending higher court call-overs and mentions, and delivering legal information and advice to clients and the public.
You will support and guide team members on legal queries, contribute to policy development, law reform, and service delivery initiatives, and help strengthen networks with internal and external stakeholders.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong self-management skills, work collaboratively under supervision where needed, and contribute to team planning and the improvement of work practices.
About You
- You have knowledge and experience independently preparing, representing and advocating in criminal law and related matters.
- You have knowledge of the practice and procedure of the relevant areas of law and ethical standards.
- You communicate in a clear, concise and articulate manner and engage effectively with stakeholders including clients with complex needs using the principles of trauma informed practice.
