What will you do?

The primary function of this role will be to provide legal advice on major public construction projects, including advice on contract drafting, contract administration, project management, claims, and disputes.

Negotiate resolutions to complex matters.

Research and apply the law in divergent factual situations.

Gather facts through meetings, research, and documents.

Draft legal agreements, documents, and submissions.

Take a proactive role in providing recommendations to avoid risk and/or liability.

Appear before City Council or Council Committees.

Draft and review reports to Council Committees and City Council.

Qualifications:

Completion of Bachelor of Laws LL.B, Juris Doctor J.D, or its equivalent and membership with the Law Society of Alberta, or the ability to attain membership with the Law Society of Alberta immediately upon appointment.

Assets:

5 or more years experience working as a lawyer after bar call.

Experience in construction law.

Experience in municipal law.

Skills required for success:

Strong political acumen, strategic planning, issue resolution and diplomacy, negotiation, and decision-making skills.

Ability to effectively communicate complex ideas and recommendations to diverse audiences.

Effective interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate successfully in team environments, build positive relationships, and establish clear expectations with others.

Demonstrated ability to work independently with confidence, under ambiguous circumstances, with time constraints and competing priorities.

Advanced computer software competency skills including Google applications.

Conditions of employment &

work environment

:

Up to: 1 permanent full-time position.

Hours of work: 36.9 hours per week, Monday – Friday.

Salary Range: $90,325 – $178,285 (Annually).

This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite.

This position is eligible for the EDO program (Earned Day Off).
