This is an exciting opportunity to join ASIC's Registry Law team within Legal Services, where you will play a critical role advising on registry functions, powers and major registry transformation initiatives, including the RegistryConnect Program.

  • EL1 ($127,641–$149,295 depending on experience), plus 15.4% superannuation

The team

The Registry Law team sits within ASIC's Legal Services group and provides specialist legal advice supporting ASIC's registry operations and projects.

The team advises on a broad range of registry‑related legal matters, including interpretation and application of legislation administered by ASIC, registry operations, administered revenue, delegations, policies and procedures, privacy and information management, third‑party arrangements, court and tribunal matters, and major registry technology programs. The team also provides legal services to the RegistryConnect Program and other initiatives delivering registry outcomes.

The role

As an EL1 Lawyer, you will provide high‑quality legal services relating to ASIC's registry functions and powers, as well as registry technology programs and reforms.

You Will Be Required To

  • Provide timely, practical and high‑quality legal advice on ASIC's registry responsibilities and operations
  • Conduct legal research and analysis on registry legislation, frameworks and obligations, including international comparisons where relevant
  • Advise on the interpretation and application of legislation, including law conformance for data, technology, privacy, policies, procedures and communications
  • Assist with court and tribunal matters, including preparation of briefs
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders and other ASIC teams to resolve complex legal issues
  • Contribute to law design and implementation processes in collaboration with Treasury
  • Advise ASIC registry and regulatory teams on legislative and operational changes impacting registry functions
  • Support and contribute to major registry technology initiatives, including the RegistryConnect Program
  • Model ASIC's values of Accountability, Professionalism and Teamwork, and contribute positively to team capability

As an EL1, you are accountable for delivering business outcomes, maintaining personal effectiveness, contributing to team capability and recommending improvements to optimise long‑term performance.

About You

To succeed in this role, you will bring:

  • Legal qualifications and a current practising certificate, with 4-7 years of post‑admission experience
  • Demonstrated experience as a lawyer, gained in a government department, government agency or legal firm
  • Strong capability in interpreting, advising on and applying legislation
  • Well‑developed written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor advice to different audiences
  • Sound judgement and the ability to manage legal risk in a complex regulatory environment
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high‑quality outcomes in a fast‑paced environment
