Position Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Law Clerk with experience or a strong interest in construction and real estate law. This role will support a team of experienced lawyers with document preparation, legal research, file management, and client communication related to construction contracts, real estate transactions, liens, permits, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
Document Preparation & Management
Draft, review, and manage legal documents including purchase and sale agreements, construction contracts, lien documents, and lease agreements.
Prepare affidavits, court forms, and correspondence in accordance with legal requirements and client timelines.
File Handling & Compliance
Open, maintain, and close client files while ensuring accuracy and compliance with Law Society of Ontario rules.
Manage limitation dates, court filings, and other critical deadlines.
Legal Research & Support
Conduct legal research related to the Construction Act, municipal bylaws, zoning, and land use issues.
Support lawyers during negotiations, arbitration, and litigation processes by organizing discovery materials and attending to scheduling and procedural steps.
Client & Stakeholder Interaction
Liaise with clients, municipalities, financial institutions, and contractors to gather information and provide updates.
Ensure excellent client service and maintain strict confidentiality and professionalism in all communications.
Qualifications:
Law Clerk Diploma or equivalent certification from a recognized institution.
2+ years of experience in a law clerk or legal assistant role (preferably in construction or real estate law).
Strong understanding of the Ontario Construction Act, real estate transaction procedures, and land title systems.
Familiarity with legal document management systems and e-filing platforms (e.g., Teraview, Conveyancer, ACL, or similar).
Excellent organizational, multitasking, and communication skills.
High attention to detail and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
