What you’ll do:

The Ohio Attorney General’s Office is currently seeking an experienced individual for a Lab Supervisor vacancy in the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) Section, Richfield Ohio office. This position will report to the Richfield location daily. The Bureau of Criminal Investigation, known as BCI, is the state’s official crime lab serving the criminal justice community and protecting Ohio families. BCI also provides expert criminal investigative services to local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies upon request.

With offices throughout the state, BCI stands ready to respond 24/7 to local law enforcement agencies’ needs at no cost to the requesting agency.

Staff at BCI work every day to provide the highest level of service. This includes special agents who are on call 24/7 to offer investigative assistance at crime scenes, knowledgeable scientists and forensic specialists using cutting-edge technology to process evidence to bring criminals to justice, and criminal intelligence analysts and identification specialists who help local law enforcement solve cases. Experienced special agents, forensic scientists, and other law enforcement experts’ staff BCI’s three main divisions:
1) Identifications
2) Investigations and
3) Laboratory.

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

Supervises all crime lab operations of criminalists & crime laboratory personnel assigned to the Firearms, NIBIN and Latent Prints Unit;

Assigns work & evaluates personnel;

Conducts administrative review of Firearms, NIBIN and Latent Prints casework;

Ensures compliance with regulations;

Conducts various studies, surveys, & operational evaluations (e.g., health hazards, budgeting, equipment purchases, training programs, research & development of new procedures & report construction);

Assists with delegated administrative assignments; serves as liaison between administration & subordinates;

Provides both formal & informal training;

Advises law enforcement agencies & makes recommendations regarding lab procedures, scientific, legal, & administrative matters;

Performs public speaking; conducts tours;

Conducts lab examinations on physical evidence when required; completes special projects;

Prepares exhibits;

Provides editing of literature;

Responsible for ensuring compliance and proper documentation of all QA program described elements as they relate to staff;

Testifies in court, & other miscellaneous tasks as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

6 yrs. training or 6 yrs. exp. in physical or biological science that included 3 yrs. exp. in analytical testing & evaluation of evidence in criminal matters.

-Or completion of undergraduate core program in physical or biological science; 4 yrs. analytical testing & evaluation of evidence in criminal matters.

-Or completion of graduate core program in physical or biological science (e.g., chemistry; biology, or physics); 3 yrs. exp. in analytical testing & evaluation of evidence in criminal matters.

-Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
