Job Overview:
A leading law firm is seeking an experienced associate attorney to join its labor and employment practice group. The role will involve handling a broad range of labor and employment law issues including traditional labor matters, collective bargaining, discrimination, wage and hour laws, and other employment-related matters.
Duties:
Conduct research on labor and employment issues, including union-related matters and discrimination laws.
Draft employee handbooks, policies, and position statements.
Respond to administrative charges from agencies such as EEOC, NY State Division of Human Rights, and CT Commission on Human Rights.
Communicate with clients to gather necessary information for legal matters.
Draft motions and responses for federal and state courts.
Prepare discovery responses and deposition outlines.
Assist in preparing witnesses and exhibits for depositions, arbitrations, mediations, hearings, and trials.
Participate as second chair in depositions, trials, and other hearings, with opportunities for first-chair experience.
Assist partners in preparing for arbitrations, mediations, and oral arguments.
Meet annual billable hour requirement of 1,800 hours.
Requirements:
2-5 years of experience in labor and employment law or litigation.
Admission to the New York State Bar (required).
Admission to the Connecticut Bar (or ability to waive in) is preferred.
Juris Doctorate (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school.
Active membership in good standing with the state bar.
Excellent research and writing skills.
Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Highly organized with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
Strong attention to detail and ability to quickly absorb new information.
High standard of professional performance, dedication, and responsibility.
Ability to work with diverse personalities and maintain a cooperative and positive attitude.
Military experience is welcomed.
Education:
Juris Doctorate (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school.
Certifications:
Admission to the New York State Bar (required).
Admission to the Connecticut Bar (preferred).
