Company Description Sagittarius Mines, Inc. (SMI) operates the Tampakan copper-gold project through a joint venture between Xstrata Copper, Indophil Resources NL, and Alsons Corporation. The project is located on the southern Philippine island of Mindanao, about 65 kilometers north of General Santos City, at the boundary of South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Davao del Sur. Under a Financial and Technical Assistance Agreement, SMI oversees a total land area of 23,571 hectares. Tampakan is recognized as one of the largest undeveloped copper-gold deposits in the Southeast Asia–Western Pacific region, with an extended pre-feasibility study confirming a 2.2 billion tonne deposit. The project’s scale and strategic importance offer legal professionals exposure to complex regulatory, commercial, and operational matters in a dynamic mining environment.
Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Junior Legal Officer role based in Polomolok. The Junior Legal Officer supports the company’s legal function by assisting in the review, drafting, and management of contracts, legal opinions, and internal policies. Daily tasks include conducting legal research on mining, environmental, labor, and corporate laws; helping ensure compliance with regulatory requirements; and preparing documentation and correspondence for government agencies and external stakeholders. The role involves maintaining organized legal records, supporting the handling of permits and licenses, and coordinating with internal departments to address legal queries. The Junior Legal Officer also assists senior legal staff with due diligence, risk assessments, and the resolution of legal issues arising from project operations.
Qualifications

  • Law degree (LLB or Juris Doctor) from an accredited institution; bar admission in the Philippines or eligibility to take the bar is strongly preferred.
  • Foundational knowledge of corporate, mining, environmental, and labor law, with the ability to research and interpret relevant statutes, regulations, and case law.
  • Experience in contract drafting and review, including basic familiarity with joint venture agreements, service contracts, and compliance-related documentation.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and risk assessment skills, with attention to detail and accuracy in legal writing and documentation.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills in English and Filipino, including the ability to prepare clear reports, memoranda, and correspondence.
  • Proficiency in standard office and legal research tools (e.g., MS Office, online legal databases) and ability to maintain organized electronic and physical files.
  • Ability to work on-site in Polomolok, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and manage multiple tasks with timelines in a fast-paced project environment.
