With one of the largest listed defence company market capitalisations in Australia and having raised approximately $250m in 2024 alone, DroneShield is undergoing hypergrowth stage, fuelled by rapidly increasing use of drones for nefarious applications, from battlefield, to terrorism, to contraband delivery and commercial espionage.

This role is in the DroneShield Sydney headquarters in Pyrmont, Sydney. There are approximately 240 staff based in the 4,000sqm facility today, scheduled to grow to approximately 300 staff by end of 2026. Overseas on the ground presence includes Virginia (USA), Denmark, Germany and Dubai, as well as distributors in over 70 countries globally.

About The Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Junior Legal Counsel to join our growing legal team. The ideal candidate will have experience in ASX compliance, export controls, ACMA compliance, transactions, ASIC compliance, employment law and a strong background in the manufacturing or technology sectors. This role will involve providing legal support across the organisation, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, and assisting with international transactions.

Responsibilities, Duties And Expectations

General Legal Support: Assist with various legal matters as needed, including corporate governance, and dispute resolution.

Technology Sector: Provide legal support for technology-related matters, including intellectual property, data privacy, and cybersecurity.

Transactions: Assist with drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts and other transactional documents.

ASIC Compliance: Ensure compliance with Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) requirements.

Employment Law: Advise on employment law matters, including workplace policies, employee relations, and compliance with relevant employment legislation.

Export Controls: Advise on and ensure compliance with export control laws and regulations.

ACMA Compliance: Provide guidance on compliance with Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) regulations.

Qualifications, Experience And Skills

Education: Bachelor”s degree in Law (LLB) or equivalent. Admission to practice law in Australia.

Experience: 2-4 years of relevant legal experience, preferably in-house or with a reputable law firm.

Knowledge: Strong understanding of Australian regulations, e.g., export controls, ACMA, and employment law. Familiarity with legal issues in the technology sector.

Skills: Excellent analytical, drafting, and negotiation skills. Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Communication: Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders.

Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively within a team and across departments.

Ethics: High ethical standards and integrity.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in the manufacturing or technology sectors.

Experience drafting and implementing company policies.

Experience with international businesses and export controls strongly considered.

Familiarity with intellectual property, employment, corporate compliance and export control legislation.

Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think strategically.
