About The Role

The Junior Legal Counsel will support the Head of Legal to provide legal support to the Group of Companies, operating in a dynamic and fast-paced environment across multiple geographies. The role will encompass a broad spectrum of legal matters, with a primary focus on supporting the online travel business. The Junior Legal Counsel will contribute to minimizing legal risks, ensuring compliance, and supporting the commercial objectives of the Group.

(This role is based at our Cape Town Office)

Key Responsibilities

Contract Management & Drafting:

Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of commercial contracts, including but not limited to:

Supplier agreements

Customer agreements

Partnership agreements

Service level agreements

Maintain and manage contract databases and ensure proper record-keeping.

Assist in the development of contract templates and standard clauses.

Legal Research & Compliance:

Conduct legal research on various legal issues, including but not limited to:

Data privacy (GDPR, POPIA, etc.)

Consumer protection laws

E-commerce regulations

Financial services regulations

Insurance regulations

Intellectual property rights

Competition law

Monitor and advise on changes in relevant legislation and regulations.

Assist in the development and implementation of compliance policies and procedures.

Support internal compliance audits and investigations.

Online Travel & E-commerce Support:

Provide legal advice on matters related to online travel, including:

Terms and conditions

Booking processes

Liability and disclaimers

Consumer complaints

Advise on legal aspects of online marketing and advertising.

Assist in resolving disputes with customers and suppliers.

Support the negotiation and drafting of agreements with payment processors and financial institutions.

Provide legal support regarding data security and service level agreements.

Corporate Governance & Administration:

Assist in corporate secretarial matters, including maintaining company registers and preparing board resolutions.

Support the management of legal disputes and litigation.

Assist with due diligence exercises and mergers and acquisitions.

Support the implementation and maintenance of legal department processes and systems.

Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognized university.

+2 years of post-qualification experience (PQE) in a law firm or in-house legal department (preferably in the technology, travel, or financial services sector).

Admission to practice law within South Africa is preferred

Strong understanding of contract law, commercial law, and relevant regulatory frameworks.

Experience with data privacy laws (GDPR, POPIA, etc.) is highly desirable.

Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Proficiency in English; additional languages are an advantage.

Ability to learn quickly and adapt to a fast-paced environment.

A strong understanding of international business practices is a plus.
