Colorado’s 4th Judicial District Attorney’s Office is located in beautiful Colorado Springs, Colorado. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) supplemented by one year related experience and/or training in legal field.
Language Skill: Must speak, read, write, and understand English; secondary language beneficial.
Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to write routine correspondence.
Computer Skill: Experience with word processing and data base programs.
General knowledge of legal terminology, procedures and regulations.
Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize.
Ability to communicate effectively with others.

Other Qualifications:

Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, sit, use hands to grab or handle objects, and talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. This job requires close vision.

Work Environment:

The work environment is that of an office setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.

TRAINING:

One Month; should meet performance standards within three months.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

Reports to Department Manager, Office Administrator, and Assistant District Attorney

SUMMARY OF FUNCTION:

Provides legal assistant support for the Fast Track unit, preparing victim impact statements and providing information to victims regarding the Victim Compensation Program.

Assists the Fast Track Victim Advocate with training new volunteers in the Fast Track Program regarding court procedures, Fast Track paperwork, community resources, domestic violence dynamics, victim compensation, and the Victims’ Rights Amendment; creates volunteer work schedules and ensures unit has adequate coverage.
Performance Standard: Orientation and training with new staff will be conducted in a professional and courteous manner; schedules will be created in time to give staff appropriate notice and with attention to adequate coverage for the unit.
Provides crime victims with a Victim Impact Statement; assists the victim in completing this form.
Performance Standard: 100% of victims appearing in Court will receive a Victim Impact Statement.
Provides information to victims regarding the Victim Compensation Program and emergency relocation, when applicable.
Performance Standard: 100% of victims appearing in Fast Track will receive information on the Victim’s Compensation Program; advocate will refer those with questions to the Victim Compensation Coordinator or Claims Verifier.
Responds to telephone and walk-in inquiries from attorneys, law enforcement officials, witnesses and general public. Handles requests or refers to other personnel. Channels inquiries to fast track Victim Advocate or appropriate Attorney.
Performance Standard: Should be quick to respond to requests from general public. Handles requests in a courteous manner and diverts only when not within power to offer assistance.
Keeps program statistics.
Performance Standard: Statistics databases should be maintained daily and information entered with attention to accuracy; reports will be produced quarterly and provided to the Fast Track Victim Advocate.
Handles other duties, tasks, or special projects as assigned by attorneys, paralegals or department manager.
Performance Standard: Handles additional duties in a professional and courteous manner.
Backs up the Fast Track VAA team to assist with calls as needed.
