About the role

This Junior Legal Counsel role based in our Chifley square head office is responsible for supporting various business units of the Business NSW Group of companies. The role has exposure to executives and senior managers, as well as broad range of transactional, advisory and regulatory compliance work across various of law including corporate, health care, Intellectual property, privacy, property and diverse industries.

This is a unique opportunity for a Junior Lawyer to work in a trusted team and accelerate their career working alongside highly skilled senior lawyers specialising in various areas of commercial Law. Working closely with them, you will provide support and guidance on contractual, commercial, regulation and compliance matters as well as work on a range of projects including development of process and risk management procedures.

Please note: We support hybrid working at Business NSW, however the successful candidates must be able to attend the office Monday-Wednesday each week. However from time to time you will be required on alternative days.

Main responsibilities include:

Review, negotiate and draft a wide range of commercial contracts, including high value revenue contracts.

Support the General Counsel & Company Secretary and Head of Legal & Privacy Manager in relation to various matters, including project work and the design and implementation of risk management, training and compliance frameworks.

Provide sound, pragmatic and commercial legal advice on a wide range of issues, including corporate, intellectual property, insurance, employment, property and privacy law, contract issues, modern slavery and NDIS and aged care regulation.

Develop and maintain core legal precedents for use by the business units.

Assist with the management of the group’s insurance program, including insurance claims; employee investigations; the management of disputes and litigation involving group companies; and company secretarial duties for the parent company board and subsidiary boards.

Work closely with key stakeholders in the various business units to ensure that the group complies with its legal obligations and manages risk within agreed parameters.

Brief and manage external counsel.

About you

Ideally you have at least 1-2 PQE and have experience working within one of the top tier law firms in Australia. This role will require the successful candidate to have strong interpersonal skills and enjoy building relationships with stakeholders. You will have experience working in General commercial contracting, regulatory advisory work, information technology contracting. You will have experience working in a deadline driven environment and enjoy working in an environment where key milestones and deliverables are achieved by working collaboratively with team.
