About the Team:

The Immigration Litigation team handles complex removal, detained, and federal immigration matters, as well as a range of related immigration proceedings and applications. The team works closely across offices, combining experienced legal supervision with strong operational and client support.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Handle a range of immigration-related litigation matters from intake through completion, under the supervision of the Senior Immigration Litigation Associate.
  • Represent clients in removal proceedings, including Master Calendar and Individual hearings.
  • Represent clients in detained proceedings, including researching and preparing for bond hearings and appearing on behalf of clients at bond hearings.
  • Attend USCIS interviews, including but not limited to Adjustment of Status, Stokes, I-751, Asylum, and Naturalization interviews.
  • Prepare and file motions, joint motions, legal briefs, and supporting evidence with the Immigration Court and the Office of the Chief Counsel.
  • File Notices of Appeal and appellate briefs with the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA).
  • Conduct legal research and draft immigration petitions, supporting memoranda, and other legal documents.
  • Assist with preparing and litigating Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS) petitions in New York Family Courts.
  • Take ownership of assigned matters and work independently while collaborating closely with the supervising attorney.
  • Provide case-related guidance and supervision to paralegals and other legal support staff as needed.
  • Maintain regular communication with the Senior Immigration Litigation Associate and provide updates on caseloads, staff performance, and case developments.
  • Travel to the Flushing office as needed for client matters, court or USCIS appearances, and other case-related needs.

Reports to: Senior Immigration Litigation Associate

Qualifications and Skills:

  • J.D. degree required
  • Admitted to any State Bar required (NY preferred)
  • Minimum of two years of complex immigration court litigation experience required
  • Federal Circuit Courts (1st to 11th) Admission a plus
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English a plus
  • Exceptional analytical, organizational, oral and written communication skills
  • Strong time-management skills and the ability to manage a large and active caseload

  • You are looking for a role without case-related coordination and supervision of paralegals and legal support staff.
  • You prefer a highly traditional, siloed law-firm environment and are not interested in collaboration across offices or evolving legal workflows.
