The Role:
We are seeking a motivated and skilled Compliance Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will play a critical part in protecting and strengthening the business by identifying, assessing and reducing compliance, legal, operational and governance risks. The role extends beyond traditional compliance monitoring and reporting and requires active partnership with business leaders and operational teams to design, implement and embed practical solutions that improve controls, address root causes and reduce risk exposure
You will work across departments to influence positive business outcomes, facilitate corrective action implementation, improve operational processes and ensure that compliance requirements are integrated into day-to-day business activities. Success in this role is measured not only by the identification of risks, but by the effectiveness and sustainability of the actions taken to reduce those risks.
Main Responsibilities of a Compliance Specialist:
- Legal Guidance & Training: Provide professional legal advice and develop training materials on regulatory requirements for cross-functional teams, ensuring all teams remain compliant with applicable laws and regulations.
- Risk Identification, Reduction & Continuous Improvement: Identify, assess and prioritise compliance, legal, operational and governance risks across the organisation. Partner with operational leaders and business teams to develop practical corrective actions, facilitate implementation, monitor completion and measure effectiveness to ensure sustainable risk reduction.
- Business Partnership & Risk Integration: Act as a trusted advisor to operational departments by integrating compliance, governance and risk management into business decision-making. Facilitate collaboration, root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives across departments.
- Governance, Policy & Contract Management: Draft and review policies, procedures, contracts, marketing materials and business initiatives to ensure legal compliance while supporting commercial objectives. Provide practical recommendations that balance regulatory requirements with business needs.
- Administrative Support: Handle administrative tasks, including maintaining accurate compliance records and performing detailed compliance reviews.

- Risks are not only identified but effectively reduced through implemented corrective actions.
- Corrective actions are completed on time and demonstrate measurable improvements in control effectiveness.
- Operational teams actively engage with and embed compliance requirements into their processes.
- Regulatory, legal and governance requirements are integrated into business operations rather than treated as standalone compliance activities.
- The organisation demonstrates continuous improvement in compliance maturity, operational effectiveness and risk management capability.
Qualifications and Experience:
- A degree in [BCom/LLB] or a related field (LLB is advantageous).
- Intermediate proficiency in Excel (including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs, etc.).
- Excellent writing and communication skills to create clear, concise, and accurate documentation.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in compliance within financial services, commercial/contract legal department, risk management, governance or regulatory roles.
