A law firm is seeking a motivated Junior Criminal Defense Attorney to join their team in Oakland, CA. Duties:
Maintain confidentiality and objectivity in all client matters.
Prepare for hearings, research potential legal issues, and provide strategic guidance to clients.
Advocate for clients and secure the best possible legal outcomes.
Stay up-to-date on changes in criminal law and apply relevant post-conviction remedies.
Advise clients on both the direct and collateral consequences of their legal issues.
Draft motions, filings, and other documents, ensuring deadlines are met.
Ensure punctuality and professional appearance in court and the office.
Maintain good client rapport and treat clients with respect at all times.
Participate in training and networking events as required by the firm.
Accurately and concurrently bill time spent on cases.
Requirements:
1-5 years of experience in criminal defense (experience in misdemeanors preferred).
High energy and eagerness to learn and grow in criminal defense.
Strong research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
Excellent time management and organizational skills.
Must be prepared, punctual, and professional.
Committed to providing high-quality client service.
Ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple cases.
Willingness to travel throughout Alameda County and the surrounding Bay Area.
Education:
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
Certifications:
Active membership and good standing with the State Bar of California.
Skills:
Strong written and oral advocacy skills.
Research and legal writing proficiency.
Time management and organizational skills.
Ability to provide strategic legal advice and build client rapport.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high-quality service.
Multilingual skills are a plus.
