Position Overview
Gordon Angus & Associates is seeking a recent LLB graduate with a strong foundation in legal principles to join our specialised consultancy. The successful candidate will work alongside our experienced team to provide industrial and employee relations services to our diverse client base across manufacturing, engineering and other labour-intensive sectors.
Key Responsibilities
Assist associates with preparation for CCMA and bargaining council conciliation and arbitration proceedings.
Draft legal documents, including contracts, notices, policies, and procedures for clients.
Research relevant case law and statutory provisions to support client consultations.
Participate in workplace training sessions on labour legislation and employee relations.
Support clients with compliance audits and policy development.
Develop expertise in chairing disciplinary enquiries.
Maintain accurate records of all client interactions and case developments.
Contribute to the company’s knowledge base through case studies and article writing.
Develop expertise in specific areas, including employment equity and skills development with a view to supporting clients with compliance in these areas.
Required Qualifications and Attributes
LLB degree (recently completed) and ethical approach to legal practice
Solid understanding of South African labour law, especially the Labour Relations Act, Employment Equity Act, Skills Development Act, OHSA and BCEA
Excellent research and analytical skills
Strong written and verbal communication abilities
Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines
Computer literacy (Microsoft Office suite)
Valid driver’s license and own transportation
Preferred Experience
While recent graduates are welcome to apply, preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate:
Prior exposure to labour law practice, whether through vacation work, articles, internships or clinic experience
Familiarity with the CCMA and bargaining council processes
Understanding of disciplinary procedures and the principles of progressive discipline
Experience in drafting legal opinions or memoranda
Participation in moot court competitions or similar advocacy experience
Knowledge of collective bargaining processes and union negotiations
