Purpose of Job
The purpose of the Deputy Clerk of General Session – Criminal Division in the Magistrates’ Office is to support the administrative duties of the courts and perform other duties assigned by the direct supervisors. This position will be REQUIRED to work night shifts (11PM-7AM), weekends, and most holidays.
Essential Functions
The Deputy Clerk for the Magistrates’ office is responsible for:
Adhere to the highest standards of ethics and professional decorum.
Providing exceptional service in every interaction with Magistrates’, Judges, ADAs, attorneys, and law enforcement via telephone, email, Microsoft Teams, or in person.
Fielding questions, requests, and complaints.
Ensuring appropriate actions are taken to resolve problems and concerns.
Accurately and efficiently complete a variety of data entry functions.
Correctly handle legally privileged and confidential information, without inappropriate disclosure.
Maintain, transfer, sort and lift a variety of physical files.
Ensure court records relating to clerk functions are processed timely and efficiently, i.e., electronically reset court dates, redactions, scan and save documents, and file documents.
Respond to and report immediately if called upon by local, regional, or central office supervisors, as part of a coordinated emergency response by the Knox County Health Department.
Ensure regular, punctual attendance during scheduled work hours.
Perform other duties as required.
Minimum Training & Qualifications
High School diploma or GED required.
Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
Minimum of three years’ related experience in customer service with extensive use of data management software experience.
Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered for employment into the position.

Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to engage in occasional light physical activity such as bending, squatting, and light lifting. Prolonged periods of sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer.
