Description

Hylton-Rodic Law PLLC, a boutique intellectual property law firm, is looking for an entry level IP Legal Assistant/Paralegal to work in-person in our office. The ideal candidate will be responsible for supporting the Firm’s foreign and US patent procurement practice including:

filing PCT applications and US domestic and national phase applications;

preparing and e-filing of office action responses, information disclosure statements, petitions, issue fees, and other patent prosecution documents;

timely seeking foreign filing licenses, and instructing overseas attorneys on PCT nationalizations and Paris Convention filings, working statements;

communicating with foreign attorneys throughout the world;

updating the status of patents and patent applications, and inspection of electronic patent file histories;

filing sequence listings;

maintaining paper files;

preparing other patent forms and correspondence;

coordinating completion of inventor declarations, assignments, powers of attorney, etc.

preparing reporting correspondence to clients regarding USPTO communications, such as Formalities Notices. Also, prepare and forward reporting letters to clients regarding USPTO filings;

preparing reminders to clients regarding due dates and instructions;

reviewing application papers being filed in the USPTO for accuracy and completeness; regarding inventors, assignees, priority data, etc.;

enter timing and the billing description for completed tasks;

meet billable hours expectation and adhere to best practice for daily time entry;

working with timekeepers to review work and ensure docketing deadlines are met;

maintain confidentiality and handling sensitive information with discretion; and

be proactive, resourceful, and adaptable to handle unexpected tasks and challenges.

Requirements

Education, Experience, and Skills Required:

College degree and/or a paralegal certificate from a school approved by the ABA (required)

Strong organizational skills that reflect ability to seamlessly perform and prioritize multiple tasks with excellent attention to detail

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with staff and clients

Must demonstrate professionalism, confidentiality, organizational skills, and the ability to be proactive

Executes work with a high degree of precision and accuracy

Proactive approach to problem-solving and strong decision-making capability

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Strong organizational and judgment skills

Ability to work under tight deadlines and prioritize responsibilities

Ability to learn new concepts and skills quickly

Expert proficiency with the MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) applications. This includes ability to proof and edit (using edit marks) non-routine correspondence, reports and tables for typographical (spelling and grammar) errors, and sentence structure

Compensation includes $20 -$26 / hr – commensurate with experience along with the following:
