Investigator – District Attorney – Criminal Jobs in Fort Worth, USA at Denton County
The Investigator performs investigative law enforcement work for the assigned department. Work involves investigating crimes and complaints, securing evidence, and apprehending and preparing prosecution of criminal offenders, including robbery, assault, larceny, homicide, arson, fraud, forgery, rape, and crimes against children.
Responsibilities
- Perform a variety of investigative work; collecting evidence, conducting interviews, and following up on leads.
- Maintain investigative files.
- Attend court and present evidence and testimony as necessary.
- Review misdemeanor cases to ensure all elements are met; provide input to prosecuting attorneys regarding merits, strengths, and weaknesses of criminal cases.
- Prepare witnesses, law enforcement and civilian, for testimony; ensure they are aware of proper testimony procedures.
- Assist in specialized investigations as directed.
- Conduct oral and written interviews of suspects, complainants, prisoners, and other witnesses; interview witnesses and reporting police officers regarding involvement in criminal cases prior to trial.
- Testify in criminal cases before juries and judges.
- Obtain and serve search and arrest warrants, perform searches, and assist in making arrests.
- Maintain communication with informers and surveillance over known agitators and other suspected law violators; prepare reports for law enforcement agencies of known or suspected criminal activity.
- Review felony intoxication cases; make recommendations for actions to be taken; maintain files as necessary.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of three years of criminal investigations experience; or an equivalent combination of criminal investigations experience, education, and related experience.
- Associate’s Degree and Master Peace Officer certification preferred.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Certification as a Peace Officer in the State of Texas is required. Other certifications and licenses may be required.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license. Must be able to obtain a State of Texas driver’s license within 90 days.
- Must be able to pass a State Criminal History background check.
