Position and Salary:
The Attorney General’s Office is recruiting for a permanent full time Paralegal 2 in the Licensing and Administrative Law Division. This position is located in Seattle, Washington, and is represented by the Washington Federation of State Employees (WFSE).
Paralegal 2 (Range 55) salary range: $59,844 – $80,460
The base pay offered will take into account internal equity and may vary depending on the preferred candidate’s job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
The following stipends may apply based on position requirements:
Incumbents assigned to our Seattle office location receive an additional 5% King County Location Pay stipend.
Incumbents assigned to a position designated as requiring dual language skills will receive a 5% Dual Language Requirement Pay stipend.

About the Licensing and Administrative Law:
The Licensing and Administrative Law Division (LAL) seeks a Paralegal 2 supervisor position in its downtown Seattle section. The LAL Division consists of 22 attorneys and 15 professional staff based in Olympia and Seattle. Its work touches the lives of all Washingtonians and focuses on promoting public safety, protecting the economy, and preserving public integrity and trust. The division handles litigation and advice for the Department of Licensing (including its regulation of drivers and professionals and businesses in roughly 35 occupations), Employment Security Department (unemployment, paid family and medical leave, and WA Cares programs), Liquor and Cannabis Board, Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors, Lottery Commission, Board of Accountancy, Commission on Judicial Conduct, Sunshine Committee, Consumer Directed Employer Rate Setting Board, Certified Professional Guardianship Board, Interpreter Commission, Board of Industrial Insurance Appeals, Environmental and Land Use Hearings Office, and Columbia River Gorge Commission. Duties and Essential Functions of a Paralegal 2 Supervisor:
This Seattle Paralegal 2 position supervises, mentors, and coaches three Paralegal 1s and one Legal Assistant, performs complex legal support functions, is part of the division backup plan for legal support and some administrative support, is part of the division leadership team and performs journey-level paralegal duties. The position independently performs a variety of complex legal support assignments such as: identifying and pursuing next steps in litigation or adjudication process; verifying legal citations and references for accuracy, consistency and case relevance; composing correspondence for signature; scheduling arrangements for witness appearances at hearings; independently composing and preparing pleadings per attorney direction; preparing tables of contents and authorities for appellate briefs; performing basic legal research; organizing and preparing trial notebooks, pleadings and exhibits to be used at hearing; assisting an attorney or paralegal with drafting of standard pleadings, records, and interrogatories; assisting an attorney or paralegal with deposition summaries and case summaries; and, drafting requests for production of documents and responses.

Ability to supervise, train, and evaluate legal support professionals, and to mentor and coach legal staff through review of work product for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with agency procedures and court rules;
Demonstrated ability to foster teamwork and collaboration and promote a positive work environment that recognizes and respects all employees;
Ability to maintain productive working relationships across the section, division, and agency, and with clients and interested parties, helping to identify and resolve problems;
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, which includes being approachable and demonstrating active listening;
Exhibiting proactive problem-solving skills and maintaining perspective, as part of a team; and,
Ability to multitask by partnering with assigned attorneys and co-workers to manage an active caseload while meeting deadlines and providing timely client services.

Qualifications:

Combination of four years of experience* through:
Paralegal certification
Two-year paralegal degree
Paralegal plus (or nine-month paralegal, post BA) certification,
and/or
Paraprofessional experience in support of an attorney
OR
Three years’ experience as a Paralegal 1 in Washington State Service.
You may have gained applicable paraprofessional experience through previous Paralegal or Legal Assistant work.
Examples of paraprofessional experience in support of an attorney:
Preparing legal pleadings and legal correspondence
Ensuring and verifying timely and proper service of legal documents
Calculating, verifying, and calendaring critical events and other dates
Managing case documents, files and exhibits
Tracking and organizing discovery documents
Researching legal issues and verifying legal citations and references for accuracy
