This leading global law firm is seeking a litigation associate (with 3-5 years of experience) to join its insurance defence and coverage practice in Calgary
.

Recognized for its well established insurance and litigation platform, the successful candidate will work along side leading practitioners, on a broad range of litigation matters, including insurance defence, coverage, commercial litigation, mediations, arbitrations, trials, and appeals
.

This is an excellent opportunity for a lawyer with strong litigation experience to join a collegial and highly regarded team within a global platform. The role offers sophisticated client work, mentorship, professional development, and the opportunity to continue building a strong litigation and insurance practice.

The position is hybrid, with a minimum of two days per week in the Calgary office.

Responsibilities

  • Providing legal analysis and advice in the areas of insurance defence and coverage.
  • Conducting legal research and preparing analysis.
  • Drafting pleadings, motion materials, factums, pre-trial memoranda, and mediation briefs.
  • Preparing correspondence to opposing counsel and clients.
  • Preparing for and attending examinations for discovery and mediations.
  • Appearing in court to argue motions and attend other adjudicative hearings.
  • Participating in professional and business development opportunities, including relevant Canadian Bar Association and industry events.
  • Performing certain tasks related to practice management.
  • Supporting other related business needs and priorities as they arise.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have a J.D. or LL.B. from a recognized common law school.
  • Be a member in good standing of the Law Society of Alberta or another Canadian province.
  • Approximately 3 – 5 years of relevant experience in private practice with a focus on insurance and commercial litigation
    .
  • Exceptional legal writing and communication skills.
  • Sound judgment, strong legal reasoning, and excellent analytical skills.
  • Creativity and practicality in solving problems.
  • The ability to develop strategies, present clear plans to clients, and communicate instructions precisely.
  • High integrity, intellectual rigour, and professionalism.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset and interest in building client relationships.
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

Compensation ranges between $125, 000.00 and $ depending on experience and year of call.
