INSIDE COUNSEL
Position Summary
We are seeking a motivated and detail oriented Inside Counsel to join our growing legal department. This role is a critical addition as we scale operations and focus on improving internal legal efficiency, particularly around collections and contract administration. The ideal candidate is a licensed attorney with 2–3 years of experience who is eager to build a practice, take ownership of legal operations, and grow with the company.
Key Responsibilities:
Collections & Litigation
- Manage and lead all collections matters, including pre-litigation demand and follow-up on slow-paying and delinquent accounts.
- Assess and initiate collections litigation, replacing reliance on outside counsel for routine matters and significantly reducing external legal spend.
- Develop and maintain a collections tracking system to ensure accounts are pursued consistently and to deadline.
- Evaluate commercial agreements from a collections risk perspective and recommend process improvements to minimize exposure.
- Coordinate with finance and operations to ensure administrative readiness prior to initiating legal action (proper documentation, notices, etc.).
Contract Administration
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements including sales contracts, spot business agreements, vendor contracts, and service agreements.
- Maintain a contract management system ensuring all agreements are current, properly executed, and tracked for key dates and obligations.
- Advise internal stakeholders on contractual rights and obligations.
- Identify and flag contract terms that create undue risk or deviate from approved standards.
Procurement & Vendor Risk
- Support the implementation of improved procurement practices and vendor vetting procedures in collaboration with the Supply Chain/Procurement Manager and Buyers.
- Assist in developing and enforcing vendor selection standards to mitigate risk and ensure use of qualified, vetted suppliers.
- Conduct or support periodic audits of vendor agreements and procurement activity to ensure adherence to company policies and procedures.
- Provide legal review of procurement documentation and templates.
General Legal Support
- Assist with litigation management and outside counsel coordination on matters outside the scope of in-house handling.
- Monitor regulatory developments relevant to the company’s business and advise leadership accordingly.
- Support risk mitigation strategies across business functions as the legal department grows.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school; active bar membership in good standing required.
- 2–3 years of legal experience, preferably with exposure to commercial litigation, collections, or transactional work.
- Strong drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills.
- Ability to manage a high volume of matters independently and prioritize effectively.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with or willingness to develop expertise in procurement and vendor contract matters.
- Collaborative, proactive, and comfortable working cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment.
