Job Summary
We are seeking a highly organized and proactive Independent Contractor – Family Law Paralegal to support family law practitioners with comprehensive legal assistance. This role offers flexibility and the opportunity to work remotely, providing vital support in managing family law cases from inception through resolution. The ideal candidate will possess extensive paralegal experience, excellent research and drafting skills, and a strong understanding of procedural law. Your expertise will help streamline case workflows, ensure accuracy in legal documentation, and facilitate effective client communication, all while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
Duties
- Assist attorneys with case preparation, including drafting pleadings, motions, and legal correspondence specific to family law matters
- Conduct thorough legal research on relevant statutes, regulations, and case law to support case strategy and filings
- Manage document review, organization, and filing using legal case management systems such as Clio
- Perform client interviews to gather pertinent information and update case statuses effectively
- Support court filings by preparing documents in compliance with procedural law requirements and filing deadlines
- Maintain meticulous records of case activities, correspondence, and confidential information with attention to detail
- Coordinate with clients, witnesses, experts, and court personnel to facilitate smooth case progression
Requirements
- Proven paralegal experience with a focus on family law; familiarity with estate planning, tribal law & regulations, personal injury law, or other legal areas is a plus
- Strong knowledge of procedural law, legal research tools such as LexisNexis and Westlaw, and legal writing standards
- Proficiency in legal support software including Clio, Word processing programs (Microsoft Office), and document management systems
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously under tight deadlines
- Effective interviewing skills combined with professional client communication and phone etiquette
- Experience handling confidential information with integrity and discretion
- Ability to perform detailed legal research, document review, proofreading, and drafting of legal documents accurately
- Familiarity with civil litigation support processes and general & commercial litigation procedures is desirable
