The role serves as a primary legal advisor for a well-established not-for-profit hospital. As a Staff Attorney, you’ll play a pivotal role in navigating complex healthcare regulations while ensuring legal compliance across hospital operations. This is a unique opportunity to make an impact at a leading medical center, reporting directly to the General Counsel and offering strategic legal counsel to the Board.
Key Responsibilities:
Contract Drafting & Negotiation: Draft and negotiate physician employment agreements, vendor agreements, managed care contracts, and business associate agreements.
Regulatory & Compliance Expertise: Advise on New York State and federal healthcare laws, including fraud, waste, abuse regulations, HIPAA, Medicare/Medicaid rules, and CMS Conditions of Participation (CoP). Assist with policy development and compliance strategies, ensuring effective risk management.
Legal Advisory & Operational Support: Provide legal guidance for hospital operations, medical staff bylaws, and risk management strategies. Assist with regulatory filings, demand letters, policy memos, and legal communications. Serve as a liaison with outside counsel as needed. Advise the Board on key legal matters and help inform strategic decisions.
Qualifications:
JD from an accredited law school.
Licensed to practice in New York with a minimum of 3 years of legal experience, preferably in healthcare law or corporate transactions.
Experience with healthcare litigation or administrative proceedings is a plus.
Strong understanding of regulatory compliance and risk management in healthcare.
