About the Role
As the Legal Department Head, you will oversee the bank’s legal operations, ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulatory requirements, represent the bank in legal proceedings, manage contracts, and provide leadership to the Legal Department.
Key Responsibilities
- Represent the bank before courts, quasi-judicial, and administrative agencies.
- Ensure compliance with banking laws, regulations, and industry standards.
- Provide legal advice on banking regulations, corporate governance, contracts, and litigation.
- Manage litigation and dispute resolution, including coordination with external legal counsel.
- Build and maintain relationships with regulatory authorities and legal partners.
- Review, draft, and negotiate contracts and legal agreements.
- Prepare pleadings, board resolutions, certifications, and other legal documents.
- Lead and manage the Legal Department, including planning, budgeting, and performance management.
- Supervise, coach, and develop department personnel.
- Stay updated on BSP, SEC, BIR, and other legal and regulatory developments affecting banking operations.
Must-Have Qualifications
- Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) or Juris Doctor (J.D.)
- Licensed Attorney
- At least 5 years of experience managing legal requirements within the banking industry
- Strong knowledge of:
- Banking laws
- Tax laws
- BSP, SEC, and BIR regulations
- Experience in litigation and legal compliance
- Experience in contract drafting, review, and negotiation
- Leadership and people management experience
Good-to-Have
- Experience working with external legal counsel
- Corporate governance experience
- Strong negotiation and relationship management skills
- Coaching and mentoring experience
