Head of Legal Jobs in London Area, United Kingdom at Pikl

Title: Head of Legal

Company: Pikl

Location: London Area, United Kingdom

About Pikl

Pikl is on a mission to enable the growth of digital marketplaces, starting with vacation rentals. We design and deliver insurance-enabled solutions that help platforms, property managers and owners unlock new revenue and deliver better customer experiences.

Founded in 2016, we began by protecting individual hosts and homeowners with specialist holiday-let cover. That experience now powers our insurance-enabled products, which increase participation, lift conversion and drive revenue across the marketplace value chain: platforms, homeowners and guests.

With offices in Norwich and London, and plans for international expansion, we work with some of the most recognised brands in travel as well as major insurance aggregators.

About the Role

This is a dual-remit role combining in-house legal counsel with company secretarial duties. You will be Pikl's principal source of legal advice, with a strong focus on reviewing, drafting and negotiating commercial contracts across the business, while also acting as the custodian of good corporate governance, ensuring the Board and its committees are well supported and that Pikl meets its statutory and regulatory obligations. It's a varied role suited to someone who enjoys moving between commercial legal work and the discipline of formal governance, and who is comfortable being the trusted advisor both the business and the Board to turn to.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contract review: Review, draft and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts, including supplier agreements, partnership and platform agreements, insurance-related contracts, NDAs and vendor terms.
  • Contract governance: Oversee contract governance across the business, ensuring agreements are properly authorised, recorded and reviewed in line with policy.
  • Risk assessment: Identify, flag and mitigate legal and commercial risk within contracts, escalating material issues to senior stakeholders.
  • Templates & precedents: Maintain contract templates, playbooks and precedent documents, ensuring consistency across the business.
  • General legal advice: Provide day-to-day legal advice to the business on commercial, regulatory, employment and general legal matters.
  • Legal coordination: Act as the central point of contact for legal matters across the business, coordinating input between departments and external advisers.
  • External counsel: Manage relationships with external law firms and instruct external counsel where specialist advice is required.
  • Commercial support: Support new product launches and partnerships with legal input on structuring and documentation.
  • Board administration: Prepare board packs, attend Board and committee meetings, and produce accurate, legally sound minutes.
  • Governance calendar: Maintain the annual governance calendar, ensuring Board, committee and statutory deadlines are scheduled and met.
  • Company resolutions: Draft, circulate and maintain the register of Board and shareholder resolutions.
  • Entity management: Oversee the governance and statutory administration of group entities and subsidiaries.
  • Delegated authority: Maintain and administer the delegated authority framework, ensuring approval limits are clearly documented and applied consistently.
  • Company filings: Prepare and submit statutory filings (confirmation statements, changes to directors, registered office, share capital, etc.) to the relevant registrar, including Companies House compliance.
  • Corporate governance: Advise the Board on governance frameworks, best practice and codes of conduct.
  • Risk & Audit Committee: Support risk management processes and provide secretarial support to the Risk and Audit Committee.
  • Horizon scanning: Monitor the external legal and regulatory environment for emerging governance and compliance risks, briefing the Board accordingly.
  • Records & corporate documentation: Maintain statutory registers, company records and corporate documentation, ensuring safe custody of constitutional documents and consistent version control across group entities.

About You:

  • Qualified solicitor/lawyer, ideally with in-house experience, and/or Chartered Company Secretary (CGI/ICSA) qualification
  • Strong track record of reviewing, drafting and negotiating commercial contracts
  • Working knowledge of company law, statutory compliance and corporate governance frameworks
  • Excellent minute-taking, drafting and document management skills, with high attention to detail
  • Sound commercial judgement and the ability to balance legal risk with business pragmatism
  • Comfortable advising and challenging at Board level, with strong stakeholder management skills
  • Highly organised, able to manage competing priorities across legal and governance workstreams
  • Discretion and sound judgement when handling confidential and sensitive information
  • Experience working within a fast-growing, regulated or insurance/financial services business is advantageous
