Our client is a leading indigenous company in the Oil, Gas, and Energy industry, specializing in Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Installation, and Commissioning (EPCIC) of Pipelines and Facilities.

Position Overview

Our client, a leading indigenous EPCIC company in the Oil, Gas, and Energy sector, is seeking a seasoned professional to lead its Contract Management function. This role is pivotal in safeguarding the company’s commercial position across complex projects by ensuring contractual compliance, proactive claims management, disciplined change control, and effective dispute resolution.

You will establish enterprise-wide governance frameworks aligned with international EPC standards, Nigerian regulatory requirements, and operational risk management objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Contract Strategy & Commercial Governance

  • Lead the negotiation, review, and administration of complex EPCIC contracts, framework agreements, service contracts, and subcontracts.
  • Establish standardized procedures, templates, and governance protocols across all projects.
  • Ensure contract terms effectively allocate risk, protect margins, and align with commercial strategy.
  • Advise executive management on exposure, liabilities, and risk implications.
  • Maintain a centralized digital repository of all contracts.
  • Oversee contract renewals and terminations to prevent service gaps or evergreen clause risks.

Claims, Variations & Dispute Management

  • Proactively manage variations, EOT claims, compensation events, and contractual notices.
  • Coordinate preparation and defence of claims for delays, disruptions, scope changes, and liquidated damages.
  • Support dispute avoidance through negotiation and commercial resolution.
  • Work with Legal, Project Controls, Planning, and Finance on adjudication, arbitration, or litigation.

Project Commercial Management

  • Ensure compliance with contractual obligations, deliverables, milestones, and reporting requirements.
  • Track performance indicators including revenue leakage, claims exposure, guarantees, bonds, and insurance.
  • Review project correspondence to preserve contractual rights and entitlements.
  • Support bid clarification, tender review, and commercial evaluation during acquisition stages.

Subcontract & Supply Chain Oversight

  • Secure back-to-back obligations in subcontract agreements.
  • Oversee subcontractor commercial performance, payment certifications, claims administration, and compliance obligations.
  • Partner with Procurement and SCM to strengthen commercial controls across the supply chain.

Compliance, Risk & Regulatory Assurance

  • Ensure compliance with NOGICD Act, DPR/NUPRC requirements, fiscal regulations, and client contractual standards.
  • Align contracts with international frameworks (FIDIC, LOGIC, NEC, bespoke oil & gas structures)
  • Support internal and external audits relating to contract administration and commercial governance.
  • Contribute to enterprise risk management on contractual and commercial exposure.

Leadership & Capability Development

  • Build and mentor a high-performing contract management team across corporate and project environments.
  • Develop commercial awareness and contract administration capability across project delivery teams.
  • Drive digitalization of contract administration processes through integration with ERP and project controls systems.

Key Requirements

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Law, Quantity Surveying, Engineering, Commercial Management, or related discipline; MBA or advanced qualification is an advantage.
  • Preferred certifications: IACCM/WorldCC, RICS, CIArb, PMP.
  • Minimum of 12–15 years’ experience in contract management within oil & gas, EPCIC, infrastructure, or energy sectors, including 5+ years in senior leadership.
  • Proven track record managing high-value offshore/onshore EPC projects and complex subcontracting structures.

Skills & Competencies

  • Mastery: Contract Strategy, EPC Claims & Variations, Risk Analysis, Regulatory Compliance, Negotiation & Dispute Resolution.
  • Skill: Stakeholder Engagement, ERP/P6 Systems, Project Controls Integration.
  • Knowledge: Contract Administration Fundamentals.
  • Strong commercial acumen, integrity, analytical discipline, and executive stakeholder management capability.

Performance Expectations

  • ≥90% recovery on approved variations and claims.
  • ≥95% subcontract compliance with back-to-back terms.
  • ≥95% timeliness in contractual notices.
  • ≥98% adherence to governance frameworks and approval matrices.
  • Reduction in commercial leakage, penalties, and liquidated damages.
