We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Group In-House Legal Counsel to join our dynamic legal team.
The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker, capable of providing legal expertise and business-oriented advice across a wide range of corporate and commercial matters. This role presents a unique opportunity to be a trailblazer, shaping and building the company’s legal function as we expand and evolve within the commodities industry.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and provide legal counsel across all business areas, including but not limited to commodities trading, supply chain management, procurement contracts, and other commercial transactions.
Take ownership of key legal functions, including drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts related to trading, supply agreements, joint ventures, and intellectual property.
Establish the legal department’s operational framework, including defining processes, policies, and best practices for handling legal issues across the company.
Provide strategic legal advice to senior leadership, ensuring that the company’s operations are compliant with all relevant regulations in the commodities sector, including trade sanctions, environmental regulations, and anti-money laundering laws.
Manage and mitigate legal risks in a dynamic and volatile market, advising on commodity pricing, market fluctuations, and global trading operations.
Support M&A activities, including leading due diligence, contract negotiations, and integration of new business entities.
Set up and manage the company’s legal compliance and regulatory reporting structures, ensuring that all applicable laws are adhered to in multiple jurisdictions.
Handle disputes and litigation, including overseeing arbitration, regulatory investigations, and contractual disputes with external parties.
Oversee the development and delivery of internal legal training programs, ensuring the business understands key legal risks and compliance requirements.
Manage external legal counsel, ensuring that legal services are delivered in a cost-effective and timely manner.
Monitor legal developments within the relevant industry and proactively advise the business on changes to relevant regulations.
Key Requirements
Equivalent legal degree from an accredited institution.
Minimum 3 years of experience as in-house counsel, with experience in the commodities or trading sectors preferred.
Strong expertise in commodities trading, supply chain law, and international trade law.
Ability to work autonomously and take the initiative in shaping the company’s legal strategy and operational structure.
Expertise in contract negotiation and drafting, particularly related to trading agreements, joint ventures, and complex commercial transactions.
High level of business acumen and the ability to provide pragmatic legal solutions in a fast-paced, high-risk environment.
Exceptional communication, and interpersonal skills.
Willingness to travel within short notice.
Able to effectively communicate (verbal & written) with international Business partners/vendors in their local languages
