The Opportunity

This is far more than a restaurant manager or tasting room manager position.

The General Manager serves as the senior operational leader of Sweet Heart Winery and is fully accountable for the overall performance of our flagship property.

This position directly manages the Tasting Room Managers and hospitality team and is responsible for the day-to-day leadership of tasting room operations, food service, scheduling, staffing, purchasing, inventory, Manager on Duty (MOD) responsibilities, guest experience, and financial performance.

The General Manager partners closely with the Director of Weddings & Events to ensure seamless coordination between daily hospitality operations and weddings, corporate events, and private events.

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the General Manager is responsible for building a high-performing team while driving revenue growth, operational excellence, and exceptional guest experiences.

Primary ResponsibilitiesExecutive Leadership

Serve as the operational leader for Sweet Heart Winery.

Leadership & People Development

Lead and develop the flagship hospitality leadership team.

Responsibilities include:

  • Directly manage the Tasting Room Managers, providing coaching, accountability, and leadership development.
  • Recruit, hire, onboard, train, and develop hospitality staff.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and ongoing coaching.
  • Hold leaders and team members accountable to performance expectations.
  • Foster a positive, team-first culture focused on hospitality and continuous improvement.
  • Support recruiting, workforce planning, and succession planning.
  • Develop future leaders within the organization.

Manager on Duty (MOD)

Serve as Manager on Duty as scheduled.

Responsibilities include:

  • Opening and closing operations
  • Guest issue resolution
  • Cash handling and reconciliation
  • Daily staff leadership
  • Safety and regulatory compliance
  • Service recovery
  • Facility oversight
  • Operational decision-making during business hours

Lead by example on the floor and support the team during peak business periods.

Operations Management

Own the daily execution of the flagship winery.

  • Cleanliness and operational readiness

Ensure seamless coordination between hospitality operations and private events while delivering a premium guest experience every day.

Financial Leadership

Own the financial performance of the flagship location.

Responsibilities include:

Monitor and improve:

Scheduling & Labor Management

Develop staffing strategies that maximize guest service while protecting profitability.

Responsibilities include:

  • Weekly scheduling

  • Overtime management
  • Labor budget compliance

Build schedules that support both outstanding hospitality and efficient operations.

Purchasing, Ordering & Inventory

Maintain operational excellence through disciplined inventory management.

Responsible for:

  • Beverage ordering

  • Retail merchandise ordering
  • Operating supplies
  • Vendor relationships
  • Inventory management
  • Monthly inventory counts
  • Inventory accuracy
  • Waste reduction
  • Cost management

Maintain proper inventory levels while protecting margins and minimizing shrink.

Tasting Room Sales & Wine Club Growth

Lead sales performance throughout the flagship property.

  • Referral generation
  • Sales accountability

Create a culture where hospitality and sales work together to build lifelong customer relationships.

Weddings & Events Partnership

Partner closely with the Director of Weddings & Events to maximize both revenue and guest satisfaction.

Support weddings and events as one of the winery’s largest revenue generators and strongest opportunities for Wine Club growth and brand awareness.

Qualifications

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Five or more years of progressive hospitality leadership experience.
  • Experience leading multiple departments within a hospitality operation.
  • Demonstrated P&L ownership and financial accountability.
  • Experience managing managers and developing leadership teams.
  • Strong scheduling, labor management, purchasing, and inventory experience.
  • Sales leadership experience with a proven ability to drive revenue growth.
  • Wedding or event venue experience preferred.
  • Winery, brewery, restaurant, resort, hotel, country club, or destination hospitality experience preferred.

Compensation & Benefits
