Watts & Associates is working discreetly with a highly regarded elite international disputes firm with deep patent and intellectual property trial capability seeking a General & IP Litigation Associate with 2nd–4th year of experience to join its Chicago, IL office.
This opportunity offers high-stakes general and intellectual property litigation for major companies and innovators within a nationally recognised intellectual property practice. The successful attorney will work closely with lean trial te ams and nationally recognised litigators, take ownership of substantive matters and gain exposure to patent, copyright, trade secret, technology and complex commercial disputes.

The Role
The successful attorney will support complex IP and commercial disputes, including:
- Draft pleadings, motions and substantive briefs
- Conduct complex legal and factual research
- Manage written discovery and document production
- Prepare and defend fact and expert depositions
- Work with technical and damages experts
- Support claim construction and dispositive motions
- Prepare witnesses, exhibits and trial materials
- Contribute to case strategy and settlement analysis
- Assist with hearings, trials and appellate matters
The role offers direct collaboration with partners, senior attorneys and clients, together with increasing responsibility and opportunities to take ownership of important workstreams.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The firm is seeking a General & IP Litigation Associate with:
- Second- to fourth-year associate experience
- Strong interest in intellectual property and complex disputes
- A J.D. from a leading United States law school – T14 Preferred
- Excellent academic credentials
- Superior written, verbal and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated legal research and analytical ability
- Ability to thrive in lean, fast-moving teams
- Admission to the Illinois Bar
Prior patent, copyright, trade secret, technology or trial experience is preferred.
Compensation and Benefits
The firm offers competitive, market-aligned base compensation $245 000 – $320 000 base + benefits with final compensation depending on experience, qualifications and other relevant factors.
