Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from a law school accredited by an organization
recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditationthe
(CHEA) or by the United States Department of Education (USDE)
with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) or Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree.
Three years full-time, wage-earning experience as a licensed
attorney.
Experience in the supervision of employees preferred.
Program development experience in a legal field preferred.
Experience as a legal counsel in a governmental agency preferred.
Experience in criminal law, health care law, including the Health
Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) or labor/employment
law preferred.
Litigation experience in state or federal court preferred.
Must maintain a current active license to practice law in the
State of Texas during employment with TDCJ through the State Bar
of Texas or other appropriate Texas licensing authority.
The salary for an ERS Retiree (or non-contributing member) may be
reduced by 2.5%.**
