We are seeking a entrepreneurial and motivated Family Law Paralegal to join our start-up Divorce Without Lawyers (meaning uncontested divorces) team. This is a new venture in the bourgeoning field of Uncontested divorce. We are not a law firm, in fact we will work with people who want to be divorced without the expense and headaches of going to court. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in family law (in New Jersey, New York, Florida or North Carolina ideally) and have the working knowledge of the paperwork needed to properly and accurately file paperwork with the courts to easily and quickly complete a divorce. It should be noted that this is an opportunity to have an equity ownership in a startup. Initially, you would be able to maintain your current employment with this work being done part time from a home office. Given your experience the thinking is the needed court paperwork can be completed in 1 to 3 hours for simple uncontested divorces. This role involves working closely with customers in various aspects of family law cases, ensuring that all documentation is accurate and deadlines are met. The Family Law Paralegal will play a crucial role in providing exceptional legal support and maintaining effective communication with clients.

Responsibilities

Preparing court forms related to family law cases.
Conduct thorough legal research using tools such as Lexis-Nexis to support case strategies.
Manage case files using legal case management software, ensuring all documents are organized and easily accessible.
Draft correspondence and communicate with customers and court personnel as needed.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of family law regulations and procedures to provide accurate information to clients.
Perform clerical duties such as filing, scanning, and organizing documents in compliance with firm policies.
Collaborate with customers on case strategy development and provide insights based on research findings.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or paralegal certification preferred; relevant experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
Proficiency in legal research tools such as Lexis-Nexis; familiarity with PCLaw and iManage is a plus.
Strong understanding of family law principles, including divorce, child custody, and child support matters while carefully avoiding doing anything that could be construed as ‘practicing law’, because we are not attorneys.
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with clients and colleagues.
Experience in workers compensation law or estate planning is advantageous but not required.
Detail-oriented mindset with a commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
