We are seeking highly skilled FOIA Specialists to support Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) operations. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of FOIA and Privacy Act (PA) requirements and have experience managing complex requests that may involve interagency coordination, detailed document review, and legal analysis.

In this role, the FOIA Specialist will serve as an expert in FOIA/PA, responsible for conducting substantive document reviews, applying FOIA exemptions, making redaction determinations, and ensuring compliance with applicable federal regulations and legal standards.

Successful candidates will demonstrate strong analytical judgment, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple concurrent requests in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and quality across all deliverables.

Job Qualifications:

  • Must be a United States citizen.
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree required with an active bar license in any U.S. jurisdiction.
  • At least 2 years of experience handling FOIA requests requiring interagency coordination and clearance, including consultation with other federal agencies.
  • At least 2 years of experience processing FOIA requests for a federal government agency.
  • Proven experience serving as a subject matter expert in FOIA and the Privacy Act, including reviewing responsive records, identifying applicable exemptions, performing redactions, and flagging records requiring special processing.
  • Experience conducting quality control reviews of FOIA productions to ensure proper exemption application, redaction accuracy, and release readiness.
  • Demonstrated experience applying FOIA exemptions during substantive document review, including familiarity with Exemptions 5 and 6.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and prioritize effectively.
  • Must have hands-on experience performing substantive FOIA document review and exemption analysis (not limited to administrative or case management support).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and electronic discovery or document review platforms (e.g., Nuix Discover or similar tools).

Strongly Preferred Qualification

  • At least 4 years of experience supporting FOIA operations within high-level federal components.

The compensation for this position is up to $55/hour. The exact hourly rate offered will depend on your qualifications, experience, and alignment with the responsibilities of the role. This opportunity is structured as a 1099 (independent contractor) position.
