Description

We’re seeking a skilled and experienced family law paralegal with at least five years of experience with Georgia law to support our elite legal team. This is a remote position but you have to have prior experience with Georgia family law or you will not be considered. The ideal candidate for this position will use their work experience, writing skills, and organizational skills to manage cases from start to finish. You will draft DRFA’s, motions, complaints, answers, and discovery. You will interview clients, e-file documents and prepare cases for trial or mediation. We are looking for an executor who can get quality work done on time and ensure happy clients through communication and excellence!

Responsibilities

Manage a caseload of 30-50 cases.

Draft DRFA – Domestic Financial Relations Affidavit by meeting with clients, reviewing estimations, and finalizing documents with client and attorney approval.

Draft complaints, answers, petitions, and counterclaims for Georgia divorce and child custody cases with attorney review.

Draft discovery requests and responses. Meet with clients to review incoming and outgoing responses.

Manage deadlines and calendar due dates and follow-up

Ensure that deadlines are never missed and are met in advance of the due date.

Prepare case for trial by organizing case facts, pleadings, case law, and statutes. The attorney drafts and prepares opening, closing, cross, and witness examinations.

Draft legal documents, pleadings, and correspondence such as interrogatories, subpoenas, deposition notices, complaints, pretrial orders, legal briefs, and affidavits under the guidance of a lawyer

Work with lawyers to prepare for trial by conducting research on legal articles, preparing and organizing exhibits, organizing and coordinating witnesses, filing motions, and assisting with client meetings

Hold client interviews to gather information about their legal problems

Draft subpoenas and coordinate with process servers

Qualifications

Knowledge of O.C.G.A. and Uniform Superior Court Rules of Georgia.

Knowledge of Georgia divorce and custody laws, rules and deadlines for discovery, motions, and pleadings for contempt, child support, divorce, alimony, and child custody.

Typing a minimum of 50 words per minute accurately.

Excellent writing, grammar, and proofreading skills.

Strong old-fashioned work ethic. Arrive on time, work hard, focus on work and not on personal and non-work issues, rarely miss work, and demonstrate professionalism

Accountability. Honest about small details and big ones. Openly admit mistakes and errors instead of covering them up, making excuses, or blaming others. Learn from mistakes and move on quickly. Learn and grow from your own mistakes as well as the mistakes of others.

Organized with excellent follow-up. Superior calendar management skills. Note everything on the calendar, especially due dates from clients, attorneys, and the courts. Follow-ups and communicate progress and obstacles.

Excellent computer skills including case management system, Microsoft Office, and some excel, Must have strong computer skills to work remotely.

Problem-solving skills and critical thinking skills.

Must have great time-management skills, and organizational skills

Strong oral and written communication skills

3 years of experience in legal services under an attorney or lawyer in a law firm setting
