POSITION SUMMARY:
Performs a variety of complex clerical tasks involved in processing criminal, traffic, civil and probation cases. Provides information and assistance to law enforcement officers, attorney, defendants and Court patrons. Deputy District Court Clerks will be required to work in the civil, criminal, traffic probation or other divisions/areas of the Court as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
District Court Probation Clerk is cross trained whenever possible.
Completes filing into probation and criminal files, including closed files and maintaining filing process. Assist other Deputy Clerks in record retention and filing in vault maintenance.
Receives paperwork from law enforcement agencies, attorneys, and defendants to complete file requirements.
Answer the telephone and direct court patrons to the appropriate person or department for assistance.
Process mail and court paperwork, affixing a date stamp to all incoming paperwork. Review mail for direction to appropriate staff or filing.
Operates a computer terminal to enter, update, correct and access case information; and to produce computer generated forms.
Document case activity and other pertinent case information on Court documents and in the computer; maintains case histories, address changes/verification on each case accessed.
May be required to check people in for court and/or jury duty. Monitor the courtroom to assist people in finding appropriate department, retrieve paperwork for probation department.
Distributes a variety of legal documents to the appropriate parties and agencies. Maintain the forms necessary to efficiently process paperwork, report any ordering needs and printer/fax maintenance needs.
Uphold confidentiality requirements.
Perform work safely.
Attend training and seminars as requested.
Helps prepare magistrate(s) with typed wedding licenses/schedules weddings as requested.
Assists in other areas of the court as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
Requires organizational skills, attention to detail with precise computer entry work. Effective communication skills, able to work independently with minimal supervision, and possess good telephone and counter etiquette.
EQUIPMENT USED:
Computer, copiers, fax machine, scanner, shredder, and other general office equipment.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Physical demands of the job include, standing, sitting, hearing through instruments, speaking and vision. Indoor work with some lifting of file boxes and general office paper/files with general office noise.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma or equivalent. Public service experience preferred.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES REQUIRED
Must be willing to comply with the Model Code of Conduct for Trial Court Employees.
