Womble Bond Dickinson (US) LLP is seeking an experienced Litigation Paralegal for its Charleston office. The position requires a highly skilled and detail-oriented individual with substantial experience in complex business litigation, including multi-party disputes, construction matters, commercial real estate disputes, and property tax appeals. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting attorneys through all stages of litigation—from pre-suit investigation to trial and appeal.
DUTIES AND REPSPONSIBILITIES:
The specific duties of the Business Litigation Paralegal are driven by the needs of the legal team being supported. In this position you would likely provide the following services:
Draft, file, and manage legal documents including pleadings, motions, discovery requests/responses, subpoenas, and trial preparation materials in both state and federal courts.
Conduct legal and factual research, including review of contracts, financial records, deposition transcripts, and construction defect claims.
Organize and manage large volumes of case documents, including electronic discovery (eDiscovery), document reviews, productions, and maintaining internal case databases.
Coordinate and prepare for depositions, mediations, arbitrations, and trials, including logistics, exhibits, witness preparation, and technology support.
Maintain case calendars, track deadlines, and ensure compliance with court rules and procedural requirements.
Support attorneys in preparing and filing property tax appeals with local and state tax authorities.
Communicate professionally with clients, experts, vendors, IT personnel, and opposing counsel.
Support attorneys throughout all phases of complex litigation—from case intake through trial and post-trial procedures.
Prepare hearing, deposition, and trial notebooks; assist with cite checking and Bluebooking.
QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily, with attention to detail. Punctuality and satisfactory attendance is imperative. Excellent client service is expected. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Minimum of 3–5 years as a litigation paralegal, with a strong emphasis on construction or commercial litigation.
Bachelor’s degree or a Paralegal Certificate from an ABA-approved program.
Solid understanding of South Carolina and Federal court rules and procedures.
Proficiency in legal technology tools such as Relativity, Compulaw, Lexis, Westlaw, and the Microsoft Office Suite.
Exceptional writing, organizational, communication, and time management skills.
Ability to thrive both independently and as part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced legal environment.
Strong attention to detail with proven project management and deadline-driven capabilities.
