Kantaria Law PLLC | Full-Time | In-Person

Compensation: $27–$40 per hour, commensurate with experience

Overview

Kantaria Law PLLC is seeking an experienced New York Personal Injury Litigation Paralegal for a full-time, in-person position.

We are looking for a candidate with approximately 7–12 years of substantive New York litigation experience, preferably in plaintiff-side personal injury litigation.

This is a senior, hands-on position for an experienced paralegal who can independently manage a substantial litigation caseload and work directly with the attorney in advancing cases from commencement through discovery, motion practice, Note of Issue, and trial preparation.

The paralegal will be responsible for approximately 70 active litigation matters, primarily involving motor vehicle accidents, premises liability, and other personal injury claims.

The ideal candidate understands how a New York personal injury case progresses through litigation, is highly organized, can identify the next required action without constant direction, and knows when an issue should be escalated to the attorney.

Duties

Responsibilities include:

  • Independently prepare Summonses and Complaints in motor vehicle, premises liability, and other personal injury matters at the direction of the attorney;
  • Commence actions and handle NYSCEF e-filing in New York State courts;
  • Arrange and monitor service of process, obtain affidavits of service, and ensure timely filing and compliance with applicable service deadlines;
  • Prepare and file RJIs, Requests for Preliminary Conferences, Notes of Issue, and other court filings;
  • Monitor court conferences, discovery deadlines, deposition dates, motion schedules, and other litigation deadlines;
  • Regularly use NYSCEF, eCourts/Case Tracking, eLaw, and related New York litigation systems;
  • Prepare, serve, review, and follow up on Bills of Particulars, discovery demands and responses, Notices for Discovery and Inspection, authorizations, supplemental demands, and other discovery;
  • Prepare initial drafts of discovery motions, including motions to compel and preclude, for attorney review;
  • Assist with default judgment motions, including preparation and organization of pleadings, affidavits of service, supporting documents, affirmations, and proposed orders;
  • Handle discovery involving electronically stored information (ESI), including preservation demands, surveillance/video evidence, electronic records, metadata, and related discovery issues;
  • Prepare subpoenas, judicial subpoenas, trial subpoenas, and record requests;
  • Coordinate and monitor depositions, IMEs, experts, medical records, witnesses, and outstanding discovery;
  • Assist with Note of Issue and trial-readiness reviews;
  • Assist with trial preparation, including exhibits, witness and medical-provider files, subpoenas, pleadings, deposition transcripts, medical records, and trial binders;
  • Maintain accurate case notes, litigation status, deadlines, next-action items, and follow-up dates for assigned matters;
  • Proactively identify dormant or stalled cases, outstanding discovery, approaching deadlines, and matters requiring attorney intervention; and
  • Maintain approximately 70 active litigation files and ensure that each matter is being actively advanced toward resolution or trial.

Qualifications

  • Approximately 7–12 years of New York litigation experience preferred;
  • Significant plaintiff-side personal injury litigation experience strongly preferred;
  • Experience independently handling a substantial litigation caseload;
  • Strong working knowledge of New York State Supreme Court practice and procedure;
  • Strong proficiency with NYSCEF;
  • Experience with eCourts/Case Tracking and eLaw;
  • Strong understanding of New York discovery practice and litigation deadlines;
  • Experience preparing pleadings, Bills of Particulars, discovery demands and responses, subpoenas, and motion papers;
  • Experience assisting with or preparing motions to compel, motions to preclude, and default judgment motions;
  • Familiarity with ESI/electronic discovery and preservation issues;
  • Experience preparing cases for Note of Issue and trial;
  • Excellent organizational, calendaring, written communication, and document-drafting skills;
  • Ability to prioritize competing deadlines across a substantial caseload;
  • Ability to work independently and proactively with limited day-to-day supervision;
  • Strong attention to detail and follow-through; and
  • Sound judgment regarding when an issue requires attorney review or immediate intervention.
