Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site Litigation Legal Assistant role based in Barrie, ON. The Litigation Legal Assistant will support lawyers with day-to-day file management, including preparing, formatting, and proofreading pleadings, correspondence, and court documents.

Responsibilities

  • Manage calendars, schedule meetings, hearings, and examinations, and coordinate with courts, opposing counsel, and clients.
  • Organize and maintain physical and electronic files, track deadlines and limitation periods, and assist with document production, e‑filing, and trial or hearing preparation.
  • Handle general administrative tasks such as time entry, billing support, and responding to client inquiries in a timely and professional manner.

Qualifications

  • Strong foundation in civil law concepts and terminology, preferably within Ontario litigation practice.
  • Proficiency in legal document preparation, including drafting, formatting, and proofreading pleadings, affidavits, motion records, and correspondence.
  • Experience providing comprehensive legal assistance, including file management, court communications, e‑filing, and trial or hearing preparation.
  • Solid administrative assistance skills, including document organization, data entry, billing support, and professional communication with clients and stakeholders.
  • Effective calendaring and deadline management skills, with the ability to track limitation periods, court dates, and lawyer schedules accurately.
  • Post‑secondary legal assistant or law clerk diploma, or equivalent relevant experience in a litigation‑focused environment.
  • Advanced proficiency with MS Office and legal practice management tools; comfort working with electronic document and file systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, solid attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple files in a quick‑paced practice.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, discretion, and ability to work collaboratively within a small, team‑oriented firm.
